Privacy Policy

Short version: Foundry is a private, long-term mentor. It's built for students 16 and older, and it's private by default: nothing you share reaches another person until you decide who can see it, one thing at a time. To be your mentor and remember you over the years, Foundry keeps your account and what you build with it on our own secure server. To generate its responses, it sends the text you write to Anthropic's Claude AI through our server. We run no advertising and no cross-app tracking. We take the privacy of a young person's data seriously and collect only what the mentor genuinely needs.
Who Foundry is for
Foundry is intended for people 16 years of age or older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Foundry, contact us and we will delete the account. Because Foundry is designed for a young person, a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult is welcome to review this policy, and the student always controls what any adult can see (see “Choosing who can see you” below).
Information we collect
When you choose to save your progress, Foundry uses Sign in with Apple to create your account. From that we receive your name and an email address (which may be Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide your email). We use these only to identify your account and, if needed, to reach you about the service. We do not collect your phone number, contacts, precise location, or an advertising identifier, and the app shows no ads.
You can use the opening interview and see your first Portrait before creating any account. Until you sign in, that early conversation lives only on your device.
What you build with Foundry
Once you sign in, the things that make Foundry a mentor (your answers in the interview, the Portrait it writes about you, the paths you pick up, the steps you take, and your reflections on them) are stored on our own server (a Cloudflare D1 database) so your progress is remembered across time and devices. This is what lets a mentor grow with you over years. It is linked to your account. It is private by default: no other person can see any of it unless you explicitly share it.
Mentoring and AI
Foundry's mentoring is generated by Anthropic's Claude AI. To run the interview, write your Portrait, react to your reflections, and send gentle check-ins, the app sends the relevant text you provide to Claude for processing. These requests are routed through our own server, a Cloudflare Worker that holds the API key and forwards the request. Your text is handled by Anthropic under its API terms, which provide that inputs submitted through the API are not used to train its models.
Finding real programs near you
When you ask Foundry to find real local programs for a path, it sends that path's subject and the ZIP code you provide to Claude, which uses web search to look up genuine local apprenticeships, union locals, and college programs. We send only the ZIP and the trade you're exploring (never your name or account), and we keep the results with your paths so you can act on them.
Choosing who can see you
Foundry is built so you decide what a counselor, parent, coach, or other trusted adult can see, aspect by aspect (your Portrait, your paths, your story, and so on), and you can change or revoke any of it at any time. Nothing is shared until you turn it on. The full experience for a connected adult, and any invitation or consent process around it, is being rolled out carefully and with appropriate safeguards for a minor's data.
Analytics
To understand where people get stuck in the experience (for example, whether the opening interview is too long), Foundry uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service. It records only anonymous, aggregate usage events: counts and coarse steps, such as “an interview started” or “a Portrait was revealed.” It never includes a word of your interview, your Portrait, your reflections, or your name, it is not linked to your identity, and it is not used to track you across other apps or the web. TelemetryDeck collects no advertising identifier and shows no ads.
Purchases
Foundry does not currently sell anything. If a paid plan is offered in the future, payments would be processed entirely by Apple through the App Store (we would never see or handle your payment details), and this policy would be updated first.
Notifications
Any check-in reminders are scheduled locally on your device today; scheduling one does not send anything to us. If Foundry later delivers reminders by push notification, this policy will be updated to describe it.
Third parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. The only third parties involved in running Foundry are Apple (Sign in with Apple and the App Store), Anthropic (the Claude AI that generates the mentoring and finds local programs), Cloudflare (which hosts our server and database), and TelemetryDeck (anonymous, aggregate analytics). Each processes data only to provide its part of the service.
Your control and deletion
You can start over from within the app at any time, which erases your Portrait, paths, reflections, and sharing choices from our server and lets you begin a fresh interview. To delete your account entirely (removing your name, email, and everything associated with it), contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
How long we keep your data
Because Foundry is meant to remember you across years, we keep your account and profile while your account is active. When you start over, the associated profile data is deleted; when you ask us to delete your account, all of it is removed.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
